Cleanup after an overdose incident

After police or the responsible authority have released an overdose scene and access has been authorized, we can assess suspected contamination and provide surface drug residue testing and cleanup. Where blood or bodily fluids are also present, these can be included in the cleanup plan. Police, other public agencies, property owners and property managers can contact us to arrange an assessment.

The work can include removal and disposal of blood, bodily fluids and affected materials, followed by cleaning, disinfection and odour treatment. The scope and procedures depend on the conditions at the site.

 

​Biohazard cleanup after a fatal fire: Once the responsible authorities have released the scene and access has been authorized, Scenesafe can assess and clean blood, bodily fluids and affected materials associated with a fatal fire. Where drug contamination is also suspected, surface residue testing and cleanup can be included in the work plan. We plan the work around access restrictions and the restoration contractor’s schedule; structural repairs and reconstruction are arranged separately.

1. Assessment and work plan. We confirm authorized access, review the incident and inspect the affected areas. We explain what can be cleaned, what may need removal and any access needed to reach contamination beneath a visible surface.

 

2. Remove contamination. The cleanup plan may include removal and disposal of blood, bodily fluids, affected contents and building materials. We plan handling and movement through the property to limit cross-contamination.

 

3. Clean and decontaminate. We clean and disinfect the affected surfaces using procedures suited to the site and materials. Where drug contamination is suspected, surface testing and drug residue cleanup can be included in the plan.

 

4. Address odours and next steps. Odour treatment follows attention to the contamination source. We discuss remaining access issues and any separate restoration or reconstruction needed. We coordinate with the authorized contact and respect the privacy of those affected throughout the work.

Blood and bodily fluids can penetrate carpet, underlay, subflooring and other porous materials. The visible surface may not show the full extent of contamination. We assess what can be cleaned and what needs removal, including affected materials that may contribute to persistent odours.

 

Our scope is contamination removal, decontamination and site stabilization. Replacement or reinstallation of removed building materials is arranged separately with a contractor of your choice.

 

Does every job require flooring removal?

No. The decision depends on the affected material, penetration and whether it can be effectively decontaminated. We explain the proposed removal before work begins.

 

Who can arrange the cleanup?

Family members, owners, property managers, insurers and public agencies can contact us. We confirm who has authority to grant access and approve the work. Where authorities control a scene, work begins after release.

 

What should I send for a quote?

Provide the property location, a brief description, access arrangements and available photos. Include the authorized contact and insurance claim contact if applicable. The affected area, materials, access and removal required determine the scope and quote.

 

Can drug residue and bodily fluids be handled together?

Who pays. The individual or business named on and approving the quote is responsible for the invoice and must pay us directly. We do not accept a different payer.

 

Individuals and instructions. Only the paying client, or someone they authorize in writing, may give instructions on scope, schedule, access, or items to keep or dispose of. This also applies when work is at a family member’s property. The client must have authority to approve access and the work, including disposal.

 

Businesses. The approving representative must be authorized to commit the named business. The business is responsible for payment and must identify its authorized contact.

 

Estate arrangements. We do not accept an estate as the payer. An individual arranging work for an estate must be named on the quote and accept personal payment responsibility in writing before work begins. Payment is not deferred pending estate settlement or reimbursement.

 

Insurance. You pay Scenesafe directly. Any claim and reimbursement are between you and your insurer and do not extend the payment deadline.

 

Due dates. Individuals pay in full on the day the work is completed. Businesses pay within 7 calendar days of the invoice date.

 

Changes. If hidden conditions require work outside the approved scope, we pause the affected work and provide a revised scope and price. That work resumes only after written approval from the paying client or their authorized representative.

 

Taxes. Prices exclude applicable HST, which is added to the invoice.
